What is a Future Made in Australia?
A Future Made in Australia is the Australian Government's new economic plan.
The plan will drive economic growth, create jobs and secure Australia’s place in a changing global economic and strategic landscape.
This will be achieved by investing in programs and initiatives in key areas such as skills and training, renewable energy, natural resources, and clean manufacturing and technology.
Some of the initiatives under A Future Made in Australia plan
Below are some of the key initiatives that could benefit you or your business as part of a Future Made in Australia plan:
Solar Sunshot:
Launched in 2024 by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), the $1 billion program seeks to support the commercialisation of Australian solar photovoltaic (PV) innovations and to enhance resilience in solar PV supply chains.
Building Women’s Careers:
This program invests $55.6 million to support training and job opportunities for women in traditionally male-dominated industries such as construction, clean energy, advanced manufacturing and technology.
New Energy Apprenticeships:
Apprentices training in an eligible occupation in the clean energy sector can, receive up to $10,000 in support, as well as mentoring.
This program helps businesses tap into a skilled workforce by supporting apprenticeships in 40 clean energy occupations.
Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity:
The Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity, part of a Future Made in Australia, is a 35-year $3.4 billion precompetitive geoscience initiative.
Led by Geoscience Australia, the initiative aims to accelerate the discovery of critical minerals and other resources, to support Australia’s net zero transition and enable the responsible management of our natural resources.
What’s in it for you?
Jobs, skills and training:
Opportunities to create safe, secure and well-paying jobs across various sectors.
Future-proof your business:
Be part of the global transition to net zero, securing sustainable job and investment opportunities.
An inclusive workforce:
Implementing training and reskilling programs, especially for under-represented groups in key industries.

New Energy Apprenticeships Program
My name is Leroy Bartlett.
I am the director here of Sol Energy and Storage.
We are Newcastle based and we serve as Newcastle and the surrounding regions.
Sol Energy and Storage, a solar and battery installer, is one of hundreds of businesses benefiting from the New Energy Apprenticeships Programme.
The programme provides incentives to support apprentices working in one of 40 clean energy occupations.
We've had no prior experience with apprentices.
Harry is actually our first apprentice that we took on full time.
My name is Harrison Sewell and I work for Sol Energy and Storage.
I come to the new energy sector because I could see the growth over the coming years that was to be in this industry and that really excited me, was new, it was different.
I could see it growing into very, very big opportunities.
New Energy Apprenticeships programme has elevated my career drastically.
I feel like I'm like levels ahead of a lot of other apprentices.
To date, thousands of apprentices have signed up to the programme as part of the Australian Government's Future Made in Australia plan.
The plan will drive economic growth, create jobs and support building competitive industries in the global shift to a net zero economy.
It's all about bringing the next generation of talent to help build the foundations of the Australian new energy sector.
The plan will make Australia a renewable energy superpower, focusing on clean energy technologies and manufacturing to help businesses and communities grow, thrive and lead in a net zero economy.
The New Energy Apprenticeships programme is one of a number of initiatives under the plan that could benefit you or your business.
You do receive incentives from the government for the businesses and the apprentices, with businesses receiving $5000 in funds per apprentice and The Apprentice receiving $10,000 throughout their apprenticeship.
Apprentices across all sectors can also receive additional support from Apprentice Connect Australia providers which facilitate the connection between apprentices and experienced professionals.
Being an adult, they're really, really making a big effort to try and make sure that we're OK in all those areas.
Not just that industry work, but also how home life is, how study life is, everything else.
They really want to make sure that like they're we're getting through this and getting like real tailored support to help us, you know, pursue this as a career successfully.
